Between the rhetoric and legislative deal-making, they found time to address important issues affecting local decision-making, too.

Winning matters. This year, hundreds of you took action by sending nearly 15,000 emails directly to legislators. They heard you, and with your help, we were able to put wins on the board.

Here are a few of the big issues affecting local decision-making that you helped influence this year:
Nobody wants to pay more for trash collection, or add even more large garbage trucks to small neighborhood streets. But that’s exactly what would have happened if some legislators had their way.
When you spoke up, legislators listened. Thousands of emails sent to more than a dozen legislators helped convince them to toss this bad bill where it belongs: in the garbage.
When special interests made a late-night deal to a bill that allows large-scale high-voltage electrical substations next to homes, schools and daycare centers — you made your voice heard.
Unfortunately, lawmakers blocked local communities from making common-sense decisions about the appropriateness of these potentially dangerous electrical substations near our neighborhoods. Local voices should be free to make local decisions, rather than be subject to the one-size-fits-all whims of distant politicians.
It can be easy to take our quality of life for granted, but Local Voices United will continue to fight for legislation that protects it. Together, we will make sure #LocalVoices are heard in Tallahassee!
