City Workers Salute

Florida runs on hard work.

From farms to construction sites, classrooms and beyond. Whatever you do, we hope you enjoy this Labor Day weekend!

Across Florida's more than 400 cities, towns, and villages, countless individuals make local life work, even while the rest of us are enjoying time off.

They work so we can rest

While most of us are firing up the grill, somewhere in your community a police officer is starting a patrol. A firefighter is pulling on gear in the September heat. A paramedic is running toward an emergency the rest of us will never hear about. And a dispatcher is answering a call at 3 a.m. so help gets where it needs to go.

They do not get the holiday off. Instead, they work it so the rest of us can spend it with the people we love.

For the people who keep us safe, Labor Day is just another shift.

Labor Day is also a time to celebrate the quieter, everyday work that keeps our cities running all year long.

Sanitation crews run their routes while the streets are still quiet.

Water treatment operators are reading gauges. Testing. Adjusting. Logging results.

Road crews patch what needs work so you can make your daily commute on time.

Watch: Local Works

From the ordinary to the invisible, we salute the essential work that happens in Florida's cities every single day.

None of it is glamorous, and it is easy to take for granted. But all of it is essential, and we are grateful for the workers who make it happen.

To the people who keep Florida's communities running every single day: thank you.

Happy Labor Day weekend from all of us at Local Voices United!
